Yanning's state swimming finals

On Tuesday 29th April, myself and Yanning's family went to the Melbourne Sports and Aquactic Centre in Albert Park to support Yanning in his state swimming final.
Yanning competed in the 50m men's freestyle. He swam brilliantly and came 5th in the race. Yanning swam the 50m in 34.59 sec- this was a personal best for Yanning. The time difference between 1st and 5th was 1.29 seconds. A huge congratulations to Yanning for making it to the state finals and also achieving a personal best.
Well done Yanning

Circus skills

Yesterday circus skills started for 4/5A. We are practicing our circus related skills such as the Diablo to prepare for our whole school performance during the last week of term at Box Hill Town Hall.

ANZAC day

Throughout this week the students of 4/5A have been exploring what ANZAC day represents. We have been discussing the importance of commemorating the fallen soliders and those who go to war for our country. We have been exploring through story books, songs, persuasive writing pieces and cooking. Yesterday the students discussed why ANZAC biscuits are called ANZAC biscuits and why we bake them on this day of remembering. We baked ANZAC biscuits yesterday as a class. It was an enjoyable cooking experience whilst also a sad bake as we thought about the people at war who received the ANZAC biscuits many years ago. Lest we forget.

Mock Parliament

To finish of this terms topic The Australian Government we set up a mock parliament with the three level 4 grades. The topic that Government wanted to introduce was that 'homework should be banned in schools'. The students choose their side and wrote an argument for or against the bill trying to passed. Students were to research and find some evidence to support their argument. After the parliament was run the speaker declared that the bill had been passed but would now need to be approved.

It was great fun and a great experience of how parliament was run.

Grade 4 science day

During a grade 3/4 science day, the grade 4s were invited to be part of the science day. They were able to choose two sessions to be apart of from physics, chemistry, biology or science as a endeavour. It was great fun and all students enjoyed being part of the science rotations.

Super Egg

Sorry for the delay....

On the last day of term 1 the eggs were all boiled and the secret plans were executed. It was great to set up the Thunderdome outside this year.
Our class was one of the last classes to race. Yanning was the winner for our grades heat. He then raced in the semi finals, he came in the top 6 and qualified for the finals. It was with great excitement that Yanning won the race being the Super Egg champion.

Well done to everyone and Yanning. It was a great final day of school.
